Panning Up - A Filmmaking Podcast
Filmmaking is a complicated endeavor…but it doesn’t have to be out of reach! Panning Up is here to remove the barrier to filmmaking and talk about the tools and techniques that a seasoned film production company utilizes as well as the challenges and difficulties that we overcome! After 15 years in business and decades of experience in our team, we’ve got a range of perspectives and backgrounds ranging from film school to the school of hard knocks. We’ve traveled the world, visited nearly 50 states, and yet after all this time our tools and techniques are still an ever-changing tundra. So join us for our little adventure as we 1) discuss poignant film topics, 2) break down one of our completed projects, and 3) come up with a unique project idea on the spot! We hope you enjoy the ride…and we hope you learn something. I know we will!

Today, we break down one of our favorite vocations videos, completed for the Archdiocese of Chicago back in 2021. As we speak with director Cody Hilliard, we find out what decisions went into the pre-production process, and whether the initial concept worked or didn't. Then, in the second half of the episode, we receive a prompt by which we construct (in 30 minutes) a video concept on how to fundraise for restoration efforts on St. Patrick's Cathedral, in New York City. Let's jump right in!

WHO THEY ARE
Branden Stanley is VP of Development at Spirit Juice Studios with nearly 7 years at the company, and many more outside it. Branden's passion revolves around creating lasting beauty, something he's able to achieve with the talented group at Spirit Juice. While Branden did attend film school, he credits most of his knowledge and experience to the school of hard knocks.
Rob Kaczmark is the founder of Spirit Juice Studios, and a leader in Catholic Media since the company's inception back in 2007. While Rob still has an incredible edge on filmmaking itself, his attention has pivoted more toward building the team and company that can execute his vision. Though he started an incredibly successful film company, Rob is among many who did not attend film school.
Daniel Gebert is the Creative Director at Spirit Juice Studios, with a unique pulse on the company's creative vision. While Daniel is among those who did not complete film school training, his real-world experience and incredible technical know-how keep Spirit Juice on the cutting edge of film production.
Cody Hilliard is a Creative Lead at Spirit Juice Studios, overseeing projects from initial conception to completion with a trained eye and a unique passion for storytelling. While others in the group did not, Cody's training began in film school.
